Oxy in Ecuador had an ESP population of around 100 EPSs and were in the process of implementing a new software tool to assist in real-time monitoring and diagnosis of ESP performance.

Problem

The software being implemented had already been implemented in other locations for rod pumped wells. However, it had not been used for ESP populations. The Operations Manager was aware that his staff needed training in ESPs and hired us to perform training (in Spanish) and review how the software performed ESP analysis.

What we did

We performed mentring and training for their staff in use of the software to diagnose ESP problems resulting in lost production from their wells. Each person that attended the courses was given wells to analyse and required to review their work with the trainer.

Results

We did a complete analysis of how the software was performing ESP diagnosis and found 67 suggested improvements for the software, which were implemented for the global software deployment. Approximately $5 million of lost production due to ESP issues was diagnosed as a result of the mentoring process
