About ALP

ALP is a privately owned, independent company. We work with a variety of independent consultants to provide the required expertise to meet your needs.

Our primary trainer and consultant is:

Sandy Williams:

Sandy has worked in the Petroleum Industry for 17 years and is a trainer and consultant specialising in design, optimisation and troubleshooting of artificial lift systems. Sandy has worked on a number of projects involving application of automation systems, development of staff competency programs, well modelling and analysis and use of measured data to optimise production. Sandy has authored and co-written a number of technical papers and has been a frequent presenter (and instructor) at ESP and PCP workshops. In his career, Sandy has worked for ALP Limited (current employer), Engineering Insights (2 years), Phoenix Petroleum Services (3 years) and Amoco Production Company (9 years) in locations such as Ecuador, Colombia, United Kingdom, USA, Venezuela and Oman. Sandy is fluent in Spanish and regularly teaches courses in Spanish. He graduated in 1990 from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh with an honours degree in Offshore Mechanical Engineering.

Salvatore F. Grande III:

Sal has been in the electric submersible motor repair, failure analysis and power quality business since 1985. He specializes in failure analysis and Transient Voltage Surge Suppression. Over the last 20 years he has provided technical and consulting evaluation to assist in providing electrical protection for over 15,000 oil wells and 400+ US Navy Combat Ships. He has been able to increase electrical equipment MTBF 2-4 times. Sal has extensive background in working with power quality studies and electrical power distribution analysis. He is a member of SPE, ASME, and USNI, and a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy.

Jorge Palomino:

Jorge has more than 22 years of petroleum engineering experience, a Finances MBA and extensive experience of artificial lift and particularly ESPs. During his professional career he has worked for: Occidental Petroleum, Baker Hughes Centrilift, Schlumberger Reda, Rio Alto Exploration, Nexen Canadian and in countries such as: Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia, USA, Yemen. Jorge has taught a number of courses in artificial lift, particularly with respect to ESPs and is knowledgeable in assembly procedures, teardown, equipment testing and failure analysis as well as field service and operations. He has successfully applied ESPs in various projects worldwide to harsh environments such as extra-heavy oil, sandy wells, scale and hot wells, etc.
